Now in its third year, the Quarry Road Summer Race Series kicks off on Tuesday, June 2, at 6 p.m. with a 3K trail race. This fun, family-friendly race series is open to runners of all ages and abilities. Register now. The Tuesday night, trail running series features nine races of alternating 3K, 5K, and 8K lengths at Waterville's Quarry Road Recreation Area. Each week there will be prizes for the top male and female finishers, as well as raffle prizes for all participating runners, thanks to local sponsors. A free Kids Fun Run of approximately 1K will be held for children 12 and under at 5:30 p.m. before each race. Register Today! Runners can pre-register online for the entire Quarry Road Summer Race series by Monday, June 1, or by hard copy until the first race of the series on June 2. Registration for the series is $45 and includes entry to all nine races and a Summer Race Series Tech Tee ($20 value). Day-of, single race registration is $5 and opens at 5 p.m. Series Winners Join fellow Central Maine runners for a single race or participate in the series all summer long for the series title. Run each of the three Quarry Road race distances (3K, 5K, 8K) in the series and you'll be eligible for the overall series title and age group awards. Your fastest time in each distance will determine your cumulative series time. Want even more local trail running? Run each Quarry Road race distance and three 5Ks at Augusta's Bond Brook 5K summer trail series and you're eligible to win the overall Central Maine Trail Challenge. For more info visit www.quarryroadraces.com Congratulations to Jimmy Minieri (22:48) and Stephanie LeBlanc (25:07) who led the pack to win the HVWA and L.N. Clark Inspiration Network Run/Walk for Life 5K. The race was held May 9 in Waterville and started at Thomas College. The 5th annual event benefited Hospice Volunteers of Waterville Area, which serves 27 communities in Central Maine and provide non-medical support to individuals and their families during the last phases of life. The race also benefited the L.N. Clark Inspiration Network, which helps Maine cancer patients and their families.
